Policies
Throughout the following, the words "we", "our", and "company" refer to EffectiveWriter.com. The words "you", and your" refer to any customer or prospective customer of EffectiveWriter.com. The words "write" and 'written" include all electronic forms of writing such as email correspondence, and web site information.
Terms of Quotations
A quotation, as defined for the services of the company, is a notification, sent to you by email, mail, or any other written or recorded method, and that defines any of time constraints, price or other terms and conditions of performing work for you. Where the company provides a requested quotation to you, you will neither be obligated to accept or even respond and will incur no expense for the preparation of the quotation. You are free to accept the quotation by proceeding to step 2: payment pre-authorization. You may decline the quotation, either explicitly or by simply not completing step2. Quotations have time limits. Unless otherwise specified in the quotation, the quotation and any implications of the quotation will expire at the end of 7 days from the date of quotation, leaving the company with no obligation whatsoever. (After 7 days, if you do not respond, we will assume that you do not want the company to proceed with the work.) The company will honour the quoted price (subject to expiry as noted above) and will bill no extra charges unless the scope of the work has changed from the work stated in and referenced from the quotation. Such changes must be agreed to, explicitly and in "writing" by both you and the company. The company will endeavor in every reasonable way to complete work within the period stated in the quotation, but due to the subjectivity of any evaluation that a document is "completed", the company cannot be limited to the period stated. (We intend and expect to complete the job on time, but circumstances may disallow this; we will not be penalized for any reasonable delay.) The company can refuse to provide a quotation either by notifying you of such, or by not replying to a quotation request, for any reason, and does not have to reveal such reason to you. (Our normal practice is to notify you that we will not be providing a quotation for some particular reason, such as an ethical reason, but if circumstances do not allow a reply then we will not be bound to reply. Normally the company provides a quotation after receiving sufficient information from you, typically through your use of the web site service form.)

Privacy
Data about you is gathered by the company through this web site, and during the course of its normal business practices. The company agrees to take all reasonable steps to clarify the use of this data and prevent misuse of the data in a manner that violates the common understanding of the word "privacy". The data collected through the company is identifiable solely as the data submitted in forms on this web site, and data collected through email, mail, telephone, or other obvious correspondence between you and the company, during the course of normal business. Only the company, and no parent organization or other organization either associated with, or not associated with the company, will have access to your data, except where required to fulfill the mutually understood service you have agreed to (eg. to a consultant working for the company) and except where required by law. (eg. for government tax audits). The data will be used by the company to fulfill service to you firstly, and may further be used by the company for its correspondence with you, even after the service has been fulfilled. (For example, we might contact you at some future date, to make an offer, or to discuss a past service.) The company will not contact you further, as described above, if both (1.) you request in "writing", that no further correspondence be sent to you, and (2.) you have not had a chargeable service performed by the company. (For example, if we have provided you with a quote, which you have declined, and you request no further contact, then we will honour that request.) The company will not sell, give away, or otherwise distribute your personal information, either in the near or distant future, without first contacting you and receiving your explicit permission in "writing". The company will make reasonable effort to protect your data, as described above, by normal industry practices or methods, but the company's liability is limited to circumstances within its control. It is understood by you that the company does not operate its own web site server hardware and software, and relies upon the ISP (at this time a Dellsite) for software and hardware security. (So if a "hacker" breaks into the ISP's "secure" server, and we are unaware of the entry at the time, despite normal precautions to prevent such entry, the company cannot be held responsible.) The company has a greater control over the security of computers situated at the company's place of business, but can still warrant only that it has taken reasonable precautions to prevent the theft of data. Note that EffectiveWriter.com does not handle or store credit card information submitted from the company's website. The credit card transactions are processed through a separate, secure server, which encrypts the data. This service is provided by www.bill4me.com, who meet the stringent security standards of the Royal Bank of Canada. return to list of policies
Confidentiality
Confidentiality, as the word is used here, is an issue of privacy, but specifically focused on the content or nature of documents submitted to the company by you for our review during the course of requesting a quotation or to complete agreed upon work. As a competing business itself, the company recognizes the importance of keeping the information within any document confidential, so in general, the statements made in the privacy section above apply equally to the content and nature of any documents submitted to the company by you. The company's staff are instructed in these policies. Each staff member has been reasonably "vetted" and has signed a confidentiality agreement. return to list of policies
