Launie has been interested in business communications since 1972, when he wrote his first successful proposal to a government agency. His communications interest and knowledge come from a practical mix of academic training (6 years), teaching college Communication courses (4 years), and business experience (18 years).

Education:
- Master's of Science Degree in Educational Policy and Management, Specializing in Higher Education, University of Oregon.
- BA in English, University of Calgary, Alberta, Canada
Taught Communications (business writing, technical writing, public speaking, interpersonal skills) to more than 600 college students over a four year period.
Business:
- Marketed and sold computer software and services for GE Information Services, Control Data Cybernet Services, and other companies.
- Most recently, managed a company from start-up to largest market share, over five years.
